Dr. Jay Hellman, the Visionary Who Was the Inspiration for The HUB at La Plata, Has Passed Away

Hellman — a Washington, D.C. area developer who was committed to building communities that are forward-thinking and in the right place — held five degrees from MIT and began advocating in 1986 to apply his theory of “Virtual Adjacency” to transform bedroom communities into “telecommunities” to enable people to work near where they live.

The professionals who are working on The HUB at La Plata, including majority-owner The Tower Companies, mourn the loss of Dr. Hellman and offer their deepest sympathy to his family.

We will always be grateful for Jay’s work, passion, collaboration and friendship. Watch a video that captures a snapshot of what inspired him to build thriving communities.

Thank you Dr. Hellman for your vision (1947 – 2023).
